Darrell is always a treat! This was his last collecting trip, and you do feel some of his pain and sorrow, but there is lots of fun too. A recommended read!
Quite a short novel, and without the consistency of Durrell's earlier work (the start is a bit slow), it nevertheless charms with its exquisite descriptions of Madagascan wildlife and human eccentricities.
Durrell's last book,about his last expedition, as amazingly humorous, thought provoking and inspirational as any of his others. A great man writing in the twilight of his life. A brilliant insight into the wildlife and problems faced then and now in Madagascar.
Simply fascinating. I am far from being a biologist, but Gerry's descriptions are hilarious and easily followed by any reader. Super recommended.
